Comparing GoDaddy vs. HostGator VPS pricing

As a general rule, GoDaddy offers better server resources at a lower cost than HostGator.

This makes GoDaddy the outright winner in terms of price. Without doubt, the low cost and high server resources offered by GoDaddy are a formidable combination.

To give you an idea of the price difference between comparable VPS hosting plans:

  • GoDaddy: Economy VPS hosting offering 1GB RAM, 40GB storate, and 1TB transfer costs around $30 per month
  • HostGator: Level 3 VPS hosting offering 768MB RAM, 30GB storage, and 500GB transfer costs around $50 per month

This price difference is apparent all the way up to their highest spec VPS hosting plans. So, if affordability and plenty of server resources are your primary criteria for choosing a hosting service, then GoDaddy is the right option for you.

With more expensive hosting for less server resources, you might be forgiven for thinking that the comparison is over. But wait a minute...

HostGator may not compete directly on price and server resources, but their VPS hosting plans are managed.

What this means is that the server is constantly being monitored by trained technicians, so problems, intrusions, overloading, upgrades, updates, and everything else is all handled for you by the experts.

So, if peace of mind, and a high level of technical support is what you value most, then HostGator has the right VPS plan for you.

GoDaddy vs. HostGator VPS hosting reviews

So how did HostGator rank higher than GoDaddy in our review comparison, if it is more expensive?

Well, as discussed, they place greater emphasis on support when it comes to VPS hosting. Their VPS hosting plans are all fully managed, and this higher level of support is clearly appreciated, and apparent in the positive customer reviews.

Our research indicated that HostGator testimonials are higher on average, for their VPS hosting plans than that of GoDaddy. We awarded them an 8 out of 10 as an aggregated review score - beating GoDaddy, with 7 out of 10.

Ultimately, we felt that HostGator pipped GoDaddy at the post - but that is primarily because, from experience, we tend to value high quality technical support over higher server resources.

Server resources can always be upgraded, but good hosting support needs to be there when you need it most.

GoDaddy vs. HostGator brand popularity

As a brand, GoDaddy is significantly larger than HostGator, racking up over 1 million searches per month on Google alone.

The Google Trends graph comparing each brand bears out this disparity in brand popularity:

However, it is important to bear in mind that GoDaddy is much more than a hosting service, and has a huge range of online offerings that all contribute to its overall brand popularity.

A more direct comparison of the brand recognition for each company's VPS hosting plans shows that they are practically neck and neck:

When it comes to their VPS server hosting, there is little to choose from in terms of brand recognition.
